To
comply with the new document, windows will have to achieve a “C” rating
or above from the BFRC window energy rating system or a “U” value of
1.6 W/m2K.
With regard to entrance
doors, the thermal performance requirements are significantly more
onerous than in the previous regulations. Replacement entrance door
sets, whether greater or less than 50% glazed, will now be required to
achieve a U value of 1.8 W/m2K, a considerable leap forward from the 3.0
W/m2K required by the outgoing document.
With
regard to new dwellings, the specification of required U value will be
determined by the Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) calculation,
though the maximum limiting U value for doors has been decreased to 2
W/m2K from 3.3 allowable in the 2006 edition. In reality, as developers
strive for higher ratings under the Code for Sustainable Homes, the
demand for performance specifications significantly greater than the
prescribed limiting values for all elements of the building envelope is
likely.
Many traditional door constructions
will fail to meet the necessary performance criteria now required, and
whilst the new regulations do not require that doors less than 50%
glazed are registered or inspected, it does not mean that doors do not
have to comply, or that non compliance will go unpunished.
Grouphomesafe
offer the most comprehensive range of composite doors with thermal
performance exceeding the standards demanded by ADL 2010. All doors are
individually marked with corresponding U values, as calculated by UKAS
accredited simulators, to give our customers the necessary assurances
that that they are specifying products that are truly compliant.
In
addition, through the specification of our Ecopack options, we can
further enhance the performance of doors to meet individual
requirements.
